MANILA, Philippines - On the eve of Game 7, Talk ‘N’ Text coach Chot Reyes and Alaska coach Tim Cone singled out one key factor that they thought would decide the clincher in the PBA Philippine Cup finals.

Reyes said it was poise – the ability to execute down the stretch. Cone said it was tempo – the team that could dictate the pace would win the crown. They were both right and wrong.

MANILA, Philippines - This Talk n Text triumph really meant so much.

It was quite a long wait. But when it was over and coronation came, it was so gratifying and so satisfying for the Tropang Texters and the whole Talk n Text organization.

It’s arguably one of the best Game 7s in PBA history. But the final seconds of that epic game left plenty to be desired.

Crucial misses by Alaska at the free throw line were so terrible and disturbing, I’m almost tempted to say the Aces, or at least, some of them, didn’t want to win.

That last play involving Willie Miller raised a lot of eyebrows. Miller, who missed two foul shots earlier that could have tied the game, appeared to have simply tossed the ball in the air.

When Talk ’N Text won its first championship in 2003, Chot Reyes sat stunned on the opposite side of the court, his dream of gifting Coca-Cola a second PBA title dashed by a talented crew handled by Joel Banal.

The two coaches would meet again six years later in different capacities Reyes as TNT coach and Banal as Alaska assistant coach.
