PBA-Phoenix Fuel on Tour in Batangas Rookie Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine protects the ball against two Purefoods defenders—Rommel Adducul and import Brian Hamilton—during the first quarter of Saturday’s Philippine Basketball Association-Phoenix Fuel on Tour at the Batangas Sports Complex. Purefoods won, 102-94, in overtime.

RAIN or Shine has decided to bring in Jai Lewis in favor of Charles Clark III in the ongoing Motolite-Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Fiesta Conference.

Lewis arrived on Sunday night and is expected to suit up on Thursday when the Elasto Painters collide with Alaska at the Ynares Center in Pasig City.

Rain or Shine team coowner Raymund Yu confirmed to the BusinessMirror on Monday that Lewis is in town and will suit up for the team in their next game.

“Hopefully, he passes the height limit [six feet and six inches],” said Yu. Lewis will be measured today at the PBA Office in Libis, Quezon City.

If Lewis, who also played for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL), makes the height requirement, he will be reunited with Elasto Painters top rookie Gabe Norwood, who was his teammate at George Mason University.

The 27-year-old Lewis was actually the original choice of Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia. But Lewis had to fulfill a commitment in Israel and had to come in late for the conference.

Garcia believes Lewis will be a good fit to the team.

“Lewis is a big man and a former teammate of Norwood so he won’t feel like a stranger sa team,” said Garcia. “More important, I think he will provide the inside presence that we sorely lack.”

Clark, one of the six balik-imports in the PBA, had a terrible performance on Saturday as Rain or Shine dropped a 102-94 decision in overtime to Purefoods Tender Juicy in Batangas City.

The Giants played without an import as early as the third period after Brian Hamilton was ejected for a flagrant foul two on Rob Wainwright.

With Norwood playing the point for George Mason U, Lewis was the Patriots’ force in the shaded lane during their magical run in the 2006 National Collegiate Athletic Association season where they reached the Final Four for the first time in the school’s history.

Lewis also worked out with the Oakland Raiders, the Philadelphia Eagles, the St. Louis Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL.
