Purefoods TJ Hotdogs has been forced to look for a new import after Reggie Larry, its reinforcement in the coming PBA Fiesta Cup, fractured his index finger during a tune-up game against San Miguel Beer yesterday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The 6-foot-6 Larry was injured early in the fourth quarter when, fighting off a pick, he bumped against an opposing player.

Purefoods defeated San Miguel, 82-75.

Larry, who played college ball for Boise State, finished with 16 points.

Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio said there’s a possibility that Larry would undergo surgery (pinning), which would sideline him for a month. The season-ending Fiesta Cup is set Feb. 28.

"Larry was really playing well until the accident happened. It happened (injury) so fast. We couldn’t really tell kaninong player s’ya naipit fighting off a pick on defense," said Gregorio said.

"We’ll definitely get a new import," he added.

In his senior year with the BSU Broncos, Larry averaged 19.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 shot block per game. He is also a 43 percent three-point shooter.

"Reggie is one of the best all-around forwards in the U.S.," Gregorio said. "He is extremely strong and skilled with vast array of offensive moves around the basket and from the three-point line."

Gregorio said they had already contacted ex-reinforcement Marquin Chandler (2005-06 Fiesta Cup), but the one-time Best Import winner is still under contract with the KT&G Kites in South Korea until second week of April.

"Too late for Marquin. We’re looking for other options now," he sad.

Larry, 22, arrived in the country late January and had been practicing with the team that has all-pro RP Team players James Yap, a former league Most Valuable Player (MVP). and Kerby Raymundo.

Purefoods’ first game is against Philippine Cup champion Talk ’N Text on March 1 at the Araneta Coliseum

San Miguel import Nate Carter, who recently played in France, scored 22 points.

SMB coach Siot Tanquingce said that Carter is still adjusting to the team’s system, saying: "He just arrived last night (Tuesday). It’s too early to tell. But we believe that he can fill in our holes since some of my players are injured. Getting a good import is very tricky because you’ll never know what to expect from the guy you recruit."

WTF!!! Bale wala ang credentials kung injury-prone naman! Problema kasi nauna nanaman yung hype, tapos sa ganito lang naman ang bagsak! (deja vu?)

On one hand, mabuti na ring nagkaalaman na agad before pa magstart ang Fiesta conf. dahil kung nagkataon, Darius Rice in the making pala itong si Larry, tsk tsk tsk...
