7:30 p.m. — Alaska vs Ginebra

Defending champion Barangay Ginebra tries to extend a remarkable winning run to eight as the Kings seek the second and last outright semis berth Friday in the Motolite-PBA Fiesta Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Kings, with an 8-5 win-loss card, is one win away from clinching the last automatic berth in the semis and they hope to accomplish it with a victory against the Aces (5-8) in their 7:30 p.m. encounter.

Clashing in the 5 p.m. tiff are leader and Final Four-bound San Miguel Beer (11-2) and Coca-Cola (5-8) at 5 p.m.

Ginebra is coming off a mighty 122-85 win over Coke Wednesday night at the Big Dome. Its 37-point win was the most lopsided for the franchise at least in the past 15 years since their 36-point victory against Purefoods (119-84) in the 1998 All-Filipino Cup semis last March 24, 1998.

Ginebra also shot 47-of-85 or 55.3 percent from the field, which was second best this conference behind Alaska’s 58.4 percent in a 122-124 loss to Talk ’N Text last March 27.

A setback by Ginebra will force a three-way tie for second with Rain or Shine and Burger King all with 8-6 cards. Because of superior quotients, the Kings and the Elasto Painters will dispute the last semis seat via a playoff, while the Whopper will take the No. 4 spot in the wildcard phase.

While the top two teams after the classification will advance to the semis, the No. 3 and 4 teams will enjoy twice-to-beat advantages against the No. 9 and 10 seeds, respectively, in the crossover wildcard.

The No. 5 and 6 seeds will face-off with the No. 8 and 7 in a knockout game.
